I grew up on this beach long before there were menus, cocktails, or people arguing about which table has the best sunset view at Hector’s Restaurant & Bar in Koh Samui. Back then it was just sand, waves, fishing boats, and the occasional suspicious coconut.
Over the years I became something of a local gentleman of Bang Por Beach. I watched fishermen come and go, travelers discover the sunsets, and beachfront restaurants slowly appear along the shoreline of Koh Samui.
One day these humans decided to open Hector’s Restaurant & Bar by the ocean, and for reasons I still don’t fully understand, they named it after me.
I didn’t ask for this responsibility… but I accepted it with dignity.
These days I don’t live at the restaurant anymore. A gentleman must maintain a certain independence. However, I still visit from time to time to make sure everything is in order at this beachfront restaurant in Koh Samui.
Mostly the seafood.
If the food is good, the cocktails are cold, and the sunset is behaving properly, I quietly approve and continue my patrol along Bang Por Beach.
So when you visit Hector’s Restaurant & Bar, remember you’re not just visiting a seafood restaurant in Koh Samui.

Some visitors first notice him near the beach tables. Others spot him sleeping near the sea breeze after a long evening beside the ocean. Over time, Hector quietly became part of the identity of Hector’s Restaurant & Bar — a beachfront restaurant in Koh Samui built around relaxed island evenings, seafood by the water, and the slower rhythm of Bang Por Beach.
For many guests, meeting Hector becomes part of the memory they take home from Koh Samui.
